How to Reach Kashmir

From the cold barren Ladakh desert dotted with Buddhist heritage to the sky-punching summits of the Himalayas and Pir Panjal Range to the paradisiacal valleys washed by gushing rivers - Jammu and Kashmir are indeed the paradise on earth. There’s lot more to discover; so plan an extended tour to the northernmost Indian state.

Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) has three domestic airports. Srinagar International Airport has exceptional air connectivity with major Indian cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Dehradun, Chandigarh and Kolkata. It also hosts occasional international flights. Jammu Airport is connected to Delhi and Mumbai via regular flights. The third airport is Kushok Bakula Rimpochhe Airport at Leh offering connectivity with Chandigarh, Delhi and Mumbai.

Jammu-Tawi is a busy railway station near Jammu with trains to and from major destinations across India. You can travel further by train up to Katra which is at the base of the famous Vaishno Devi Shrine. Banihal to Baramulla is a rail segment within the state which passes through Srinagar.

By road, you can access the state on National Highway 1A which connects Jammu, Srinagar and other important cities with remaining India. Leh-Manali Highway is another popular route, especially among adventurers to reach Ladakh. However, it remains closed for nearly 7-8 months (between October-May) due to heavy snowfall.

Local buses, as well as taxis/cabs, are available for travelling within the state. Prefer 4WD or jeeps for difficult terrains. Get in touch with SOTC for more information and booking.
