The capital of the country is certainly among the places to go in Greece. Apart from being an eclectic mix of the old and the new, the city is striking because of the ancient archaeological ruins that it has, primarily the Acropolis. There are several other important structures here such as the Parthenon, the Temple of Athena Nike and the Erechtheion. The Acropolis museum is among the top attractions in the city.

The island of Corfu is simply delightful. A popular tourist destination, it lies off the coasts of Greece and Albania. The views of picturesque valleys, the coastline and the mountains are stunning and gorgeous. Corfu town is, in fact, one of the must visit places in Greece. This tiny city is reminiscent of an older era and simpler times, inviting you to lose yourself within its cobbled streets and amid its charming boutiques. Sunny beaches are also a huge draw here. If you’re lucky, you might even spot pods of dolphins swimming along the coast.

For many people, Mykonos is synonymous with Greece. The charming island is now an iconic representation of the country and is one of the most sought-after places to visit in Greece. Today, it is not only known today for its amazing nightlife and splendid beaches, but also for the whitewashed houses that dot the coastal landscape. Don’t miss out on seeing the windmills here, or the Folklore Museum which offers a good insight into the city’s cultural identity beyond the beaches and the nightlife.

This is one of the most favourite Greece tourist places for the museums, galleries and archaeological sites. Here you can catch the sunset in the village of Oia which can be seen only from the tip of the island. Another spot worth visiting here is the Santorini Volcano which still has a few active craters. Other things to explore here are the beaches and the monasteries.

Delphi is one of the most well-known Greece tourist places. Those in the know about ancient Greek culture are probably aware of the importance of Delphi in those times. Greeks used to consider it to be the centre of the earth, but more importantly, Delphi was an important oracle dedicated to the god Apollo. Today, people often come here to visit the ruins of the Temple of Apollo, the theatre and the hippodrome.

Truly, a hidden paradise, Anafi should be on your list of places to visit in Greece, simply for how little attention it attracts from the droves of tourists who head straight to Santorini or Mykonos. Anafi is like a soothing balm for your soul with its relaxing beaches that are serene and free of crowds. The whitewashed houses infuse tranquillity and there are some archaeological sites to discover as well.

With some startling geological formations and the beautiful Sarakiniko beach, Milos is yet another hidden gem which should be on your list of places to visit in Greece. Relax as you enjoy the laidback vibe of the place. Experience the joys of lazing on a secluded beach without the jostling crowds contrary to the other popular destinations.

The town of Galaxidi lies very much off the beaten track and not many know of its quaint beauty. While there’s nothing that overtly draws you to this town, it has a charming rural atmosphere, a vibrant harbour and a collection of beautiful neoclassical mansions that will make you gasp in joy. This is certainly one of the untapped Greece tourist places that deserve more recognition.

Head over to Meteora for some mind-boggling sights. It is built on the peaks of sandstone pillars that were formed millions of years ago. These monasteries that were built during the Middle ages offer brilliant views of the landscape. The town of Kalabaka, which sits at the foot of these peaks, is a good base camp for those who want to make the climb. Six monasteries are still occupied by clergy. This may not be a typical tourist place to visit in Greece but the stunning vistas it offers makes a visit all the more memorable.
