Italy Visa

The Schengen Area incorporates 26 European countries, and Italy is one of them. If the applicant's country is a part of the European Union, European Economic Area, or the applicant himself is a Swiss citizen, there is no need to apply for an Italy visa or a residence permit. However, one must apply for an Italy visa from India since the corresponding country isn’t a member of any of the above. People usually visit the country for business, work, study and tourism purposes. Firstly, one must decide the reason for travelling prior submitting the Italy visa application. Italy visas are divided into 2 main categories:

Short-term visa: Short-term Italy visas are also known as Schengen C-Type visas. These short-term visas are valid for 90 days within 6 months, starting from the date of entry into the Schengen country. Short-term Italy visas are further divided into Uniform Schengen Visas, which are valid through all the Schengen countries, and Limited Territorial Validity Visas which are only issued under certain circumstances and valid in one or more Schengen countries. Short term visas are issued for tourism, business, study, transit, sports and religious events, medical purposes and are also invitation-based. The duration of one’s stay depends if the short-term Italy visas are single or multiple entries.

Long-term visa: Long-term visas are also known as Schengen D-Type visas. A long-term Italy visa is issued for more than 90 days and is also called a National Visa. Long term visas include permits of various types such as:

  • Religious work visa: This is a type of visa is for the one who is trained and ready to work with an organisation as a full-time religious worker.
  • Study visa: Students who plan to study or conduct research for more than 90 days must apply for this visa.
  • Family reunion visa: This type of visa is for family members who live in a foreign country, are financially dependent on the sponsor and want to stay with him/her.
  • Self-employment visa: One can apply for this visa if he/she requires a work permit to start their business in the country.

Italy Visa Application Process: To start the Italy visa application process, one must first decide the purpose of travel. Once the same is clear, it is important to look for comprehensive Italy visa information i.e. different steps associated with the procedures based on his/her nationality.

When one applies for an Italy visa from India, only the one applying for a D-type visa must submit the application himself/herself. Any accomplice will not be allowed to enter the Italy Visa Application Centre in New Delhi, Chandigarh, Jalandhar and Jaipur. Once all the documents for the Italy visa application are arranged, the next step is applying for the Italy visa online. While the procedure can be done in person as well, the online process of submitting Italy visa application is more convenient.
