Things to Do in Krabi

Krabi is located in Southern Thailand and is an exotic holiday destination. On Thailand’s west coast, it is a beautiful province with more than 150 offshore islands. Characterised by limestone cliffs, dense mangrove forests and an amazing 150 km coastline with sparkling white sanded beaches and intense turquoise blue waters, it’s no wonder tourists constantly stream in every year.

Krabi has many things going for it. While it’s less crowded than Phuket and Koh Samui, there is no dearth of activities to do and things to see here. It has gone on to become an excellent tourist hotspot now. Here’s a list of some of the top things to do in Krabi.

There are several fun things to do in Krabi, not just around the beaches but inside and outside the town as well. SOTC has several deals and offers on Krabi and Thailand tour packages - so do remember to check our website before you book your Krabi trip.

Of the many islands belonging to the Krabi archipelago, a visit to Koh Poda is one of the coolest things to do in Krabi. With the gently nodding palm trees and the soft white sand beach, it makes for a beautiful tropical holiday spot. Koh Poda actually has four islands Koh Poda, Koh Kai, Koh Tap and Koh Mor. There’s no accommodation as such here because Koh Poda belongs to a national park although there is a beach restaurant and a small hotel if you do decide to stay the night. This is one of the places that is not affected by monsoons and can be enjoyed any time of the year.

Also known as Tiger Cave, a visit here is one of the must do things in Krabi. One of Thailand’s natural wonders, this is a maze of natural limestone caves which are exciting to explore. One of the reasons people come up here is to see the footprint of the Buddha. However, to reach this spot , one has to climb 1237 steps to reach the main cave. This can be a strenuous climb and it’s a good idea to carry water along with you. Reaching the top might be a lot of hard work but it’s well worth it for the views and the feeling of serenity as you enter the temple cave.

Wouldn’t it be wonderful to traipse around a forest and come upon a brilliant green pool in the midst of what seems like nowhere? The Emerald Pool located in Thung Teao Forest Natural Park is indeed one of the things to do in Krabi. The flora and fauna of this place is stunning, rich and rare. The emerald pool itself is crystal clear and is a fantastic spot for a dip. Bird watchers will also enjoy the trek through the rainforest. This is indeed something that you should spend time doing.

For most tourists, one of the first things to do in Krabi is to look up how to reach Railay. This serene beautiful beach is a favourite amongst many because of the sights it has to offer, be it the limestone cliffs, the viewpoints offering some majestic sights, or the lagoon that is hidden inside the cliffs. A visit to Railay is on the bucket list of every traveller who comes to Krabit. Railay can be reached only by boat and it’s your perfect idea of a tropical paradise.

Here’s a chance to explore the Ao Luk Mangroves and caves. It’s one of the interesting things to do in Krabi. Ao Luk is popular with tourists and locals because of the shade it offers and the many small pools there are within. It’s the kind of place to head to for a relaxing afternoon and a leisurely swim in the pools. Weekends can get crowded though. Also, it’s a good idea to bring your snacks or buy some from the local vendors at the entrance of the park. There are also three caves in the mangroves which can be accessed only by long-tail boat. These caves are natural wonders and have stalactites and stalagmites and the caves used to be a burial site 3000 years ago. There are paintings on the ceiling that go back to this time period, which are very fascinating.

One of the fun things to do in Krabi would be a visit to Klong Thom Hot Springs. Soaking your aching body in the waters of these hot springs is relaxing as well as rejuvenating. The waters of these springs can be as warm as 40 degrees Celsius and being infused with natural mineral salts, they are reputed to cure several ailments. What’s striking is that the environment is quite unique, since it feels like being in a hot tub that has been carved out of natural stone. The hot springs are close to Khao Phra Bang Khram Nature Reserve and is a visit that will make you feel like a new person all over again.

While the beaches nearby might be geared for foreign visitors, Krabi Town continues to remain laidback and enjoys its extremely local vibe. For many people, this is a transit town before they head to other things to do in Krabi, like visit Railay, Koh Lanta or Koh Phi Phi. But if you do take the time to linger, you’ll be treated to a slice of life in the lives of the ordinary Thai people who cater to the numerous foreign tourists. From shops to markets to restaurants, there’s a lot to see here and take in.
