Bentota Tourism: Bentota Travel Guide and Tips | SOTC

Sun and sand; these two words are enough to describe Bentota tourism. But this town, on Sri Lanka’s western coast, goes beyond its natural bounty to offer a complete holiday experience to expectant travellers. As a result, Bentota tours are a beautiful potpourri of varied experiences that work together to liven up your holidays.

The golden sand of Bentota beach is as evocative of the place as the peaceful Buddha seated atop the Kande Viharaya. But Bentota tourism is not just about culture and religion either. It has gorgeous walking trails adorned with gurgling waterfalls and exciting water sports with some of the best diving in the world.

If you’re planning your next holiday to Bentota, just remember two things: keep an open mind and keep your camera batteries charged. You’ll need both, to capture the complete essence of this wonderful place.

Bentota Geography and Climate

Almost equidistant from Colombo and Galle, Bentota is settled on the southern bank of the Bentota river’s mouth, along the west coast of Sri Lanka. It is at an average height of 3 metres above sea level. Initially settled as a fort, by the Portuguese in the 17th century, the Dutch followed and converted it into a stagecoach waypoint. It was ultimately the British who shaped it into an idyllic rest stop.

Bentota enjoys a typical tropical climate controlled by the monsoon winds. The year-round temperate averages between 25 to 30 °C, but the ever-present humidity makes it seem hotter.
