Places to Visit in Venice

With its sprawling canals and beautiful historical buildings, Venice is one of the most visited places in the world. Every year, millions of people come here, hoping for a glimpse of the elusive Italian dolce vita. While there are many tourist places in Venice, sometimes, all it takes to experience the beauty of life is to watch the world go by. Sit down for an aperitivo at one of the rooftop bars and mull over life in general or settle down with a delicious salted cod mousse at one of the numerous restaurants.

Life in Venice is different from the other Italian metropolises. There are plenty of tourists here as well, but you can sense the calm and laidback life here even though the city might appear to be bustling at certain times. Take a walk down the many cobblestoned streets or take a vaporetto to the nearby islands as you decide over the places to visit in Venice.

Apart from the ones mentioned below, there are several more places to visit in Venice such as Murano and Burano or the Gallerie dell’Accademia. Do remember to check the SOTC website for offers and deals on Venice tour packages, Italy tour packages and Europe tour packages before you book your trip.

Among the must-visit places in Venice is St. Mark’s Basilica located in Piazza San Marco. It’s a gorgeous church with a beautiful façade but inside, there are breath taking gold mosaics that cover the domes and the walls.

One of the places to go in Venice is the Doge’s Palace, a lavish and grand palace which houses art by most of the Venetian masters. You can even see Paradise by Tintoretto, which is touted to be the largest oil painting in the world. Private tours include a walk across the Bridge of Sighs to the Prigioni prison.

One of the most important places to visit in Venice is the Grand Canal. Running through the centre of the city, this principal boulevard connects Piazza San Marco, Rialto Bridge and other important points of access from the mainland. The facades of the grand palaces of yore can still be seen on both sides of the canal as you whiz past in a vaporetti.

One of the top tourist places in Venice is the famed Rialto Bridge and when you cross this bridge, you come to San Polo. In the streets here, there are markets and shops where chefs come for fresh produce and seafood. But beyond the market, you’ll find mask-making studios and artisan shops and restaurants with fewer tourists. Don’t forget to buy a Venetian mask here!
