Moscow is not only the capital of Russia, but also, the nation’s most inhabited city. For travellers considering a holiday to the vast and wonderful country, Moscow tourism is an unmissable experience, with sprawling churches, fascinating museums and theatres that host some of the world’s best ballet and opera performances.

Moscow Geography

Moscow is located on the Moskva River in the European part of Russia. It is known for its lush greenery – in fact, it is known for having more forested area than any other urban city in the world, and major Moscow tourism places like the Gorky Park and Elk Island are a testament to this fact.

Moscow Climate

Russia is known for extreme seasonal weather, and Moscow is no different. Winters in Moscow are very cold (though locals might consider them normal by Russian standards!). In fact, temperatures of negative twenty degrees or lower are not uncommon. In sharp contrast to the winter, summertime is very warm, with June, July and August being the warmest months in the city, making them the peak time for Moscow tourism as well.

Moscow Tourism

The capital city is not short on places to see and attractions to experience. The good thing is that Moscow is very well set up for tourists to get around easily. The city has an extensive metro system which is definitely the cheapest and fastest way to make your way around. Get a ‘Troika’ card to use the metro system – this can also be used on buses and trams within the city.

At SOTC, we offer a wide range of Moscow tours for all types of travellers and budgets. If you’d like to learn more about the capital city and start planning your very own Moscow tour, pop into your closest SOTC branch or visit our website to learn more about the Moscow tour packages and other Russia tour packages we offer.
