Things to do in Pahalgam

Engulfed by the alpine peaks and the Seshnag Rivers is the picturesque mountainous valley of Pahalgam. Especially if you have the plan to visit the famous Amarnath caves, Pahalgam is a major base. It is the starting point for this annual pilgrimage organised in July and August. This time attracts numerous tourists to the famous abode of Lord Shiva. Amarnath is known for the ice lingam that forms naturally within the cave and is highly worshipped by devotees. Though it will be a rush time, you can still plan your Pahalgam holidays during this time, as this place offers spectacular points of interest.

Plan a visit to Aru Village, which is the last splendid village in the Lidder Valley and at a distance of about 15kms from Pahalgam. It is also a known central point for a trek to the Kolahoi glacier. Being at this beautiful village is a magical experience. While the village serves as the centre point, the glacier is an ultimate trek that great mountains take to get a majestic view of the glacier and the valley.

You can visit the Baisaran Hills, about few kilometres from Pahalgam and is surrounded by a dense thicket of pines, firs and cedar across the Lidder Valley. Get amazed by the beauty of the Betaab Valley, which has been a destination for many movie shootings. Amongst the many things to do in Pahalgam, is to take a trip to Chandanwari in the outskirts of Pahalgam and significant tourist spot. It is also the beginning point of the annual Amarnath Yatra. It is a sight to behold and a scenic destination for visitors coming to the valley. A trip to Pahalgam is filled with valleys, rivers, and sacred spots for the devotees.

Another great and breathtaking spot that you must hardly miss on your Kashmir trip is the Sheshnag Lake, which is also a pilgrimage site near Pahalgam. There are some mysterious tales associated with this lake, which is cherished by the devotees of Lord Shiva. It is frozen during winters and is an abode to brown trout fish in large numbers. The sprawling green pastures, the snow-clad peaks and the magical waters; makes this lake a perfect camping spot.

If you are the trekking kinds, you must hardly miss on visiting the Tulian Lake, a high altitude water body near Aru, close to Pahalgam. It is about 4000 metres above sea level and serves a great landscape of green pastures, lovely hills, and snowy peaks. It is a great camping spot and takes a trekking trip of about 2 days from Aru.

You can even plan to be in Pahalgam in January and February for the grand snow festival, which is organised by the state government and conducts activities such as horse riding, skiing and sledging. Pahalgam is a sacred site and has numerous temples and religious shrines that are surrounded by scenic landscapes and divine water bodies.
