How to reach Mussoorie by Train

It doesn’t matter if you are in a taxi or a self-drive or in a bus; this is one road trip you will thoroughly enjoy. Buses are the most convenient and reasonably priced transport option. There are a number of state and private services that run from New Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and towns of Uttarakhand that will drop you in the heart of Mussoorie. Delhi is 290 km away from Mussoorie. It takes close to 9 hours on NH 58 to cover the distance. Keep your music handy and food close by if you wish to cover the distance in one stretch.

How to reach Mussoorie by Train

Mussoorie does not have a train station. The nearest railway junction is in the capital city of Dehradun, 28 km from Mussoorie. It is one of the most popular modes of transport used by the tourists to reach the hill town of Mussoorie and destinations nearby. Shatabdi Express, Janshatabi, Nizamuddin and Mussoorie Express are some of the preferred trains at run between New Delhi and Dehradun. The journey takes 6 hours from point to point. Madurai-Dehradun Superfast Express, Upasana and Doon Express train from Howrah to Dehradun, Link Express from Allahabad and Dehradun Express from Mumbai are some of the other trains one can take. Once in Dehradun, there are plenty taxi and bus services that one can avail of. However, it is advisable to have buffer time at hand if you plan to start your road trip immediately after alighting from the train. Long distance trains do get delayed thus leaving little time for safe road travel in bright daylight.

How to reach Mussoorie by Air

Mussoorie doesn’t have an airport of its own. The nearest available airport is Jolly Grant Airport at Dehradun. The distance between Mussoorie and Dehradun is only 34 km but as the airport is situated south of Dehradun, you will have to cover a distance of almost 60 km to reach Mussorie. There are limited non-stop flights available from New Delhi and Mumbai for Dehradun. Major airlines such as Indigo, Jet Airways, Air India and Spicejet offer daily flights. You can also take hopping flights from Bengaluru, Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad and Pune with a stopover in New Delhi.
