Tawang Monastery

A trip to the North East is incomplete without a tour to the Tawang Monastery Complex which sprawls over 140 square metres and houses multiple residential structures. The monastery was constructed 400 years ago and perches on a 10,000-foot peak from where you can get a stunning view of the adjacent valleys.

Sela Pass

The Sela Pass links Tawang of Arunachal Pradesh with mainland India. One of the most adventurous things to do in North-East is going on a hike along the Sela Pass. The pass at an altitude of 13,000 feet, often gets snowed in during winters.

Goecha La Trek

Goecha La in Sikkim is one of the highest altitude passes in India. The trek starts from Yuksom and a round trip takes about a week. The highlight of the trek is the rhododendron forests along the pass.

Yumthang Valley

If you want to be dazzled by the work of nature, then you should make a trip to the Yumthang Valley in northern Sikkim. You will see plenty of domestic animals grazing here peacefully. In summers, the valley comes alive with rhododendrons blossoming everywhere.

This tranquil lake is situated 12,000 feet above sea level and fed by the melting waters of glaciers and ridged by rugged and snowy peaks. You have to trek to this lake which can be long and arduous but the breathtaking views make it worth it.

Kaziranga Wildlife Sanctuary

Your list of places to visit in North East should definitely include the Kaziranga Sanctuary. This Wildlife Sanctuary is India’s pride and glory. It is home to 66% of the world’s total rhinoceros population. To cap it all, it also has the highest tiger density in the world. You will also get glimpses of elephants, rare birds and different species of deer.

Bihu Celebrations           

The pomp and glamour of this cultural festival of Assam are well-renowned. It is organised in April every year. Witness myriad different cultural performances, folk dances and live musical shows and soak in the spirit of Assam.

Charaideo Maidam Mausoleum

One of the most unique things to do in North-East is to walk among historical graves. Charaideo is a very ancient town, nestled at the foot of the mountains in Nagaland.
