Best Time to Visit Sri Lanka

Set in the Indian Ocean in South Asia, the tropical island nation of Sri Lanka has a history dating back to the birth of time.  It is a place where the original soul of Buddhism still flourishes and where nature’s beauty remains abundant and unspoilt. Few places in the world can offer the traveller such a remarkable combination of stunning landscapes, pristine beaches, captivating cultural heritage and unique experiences within such a compact location, these you can experience on your Sri Lanka holiday.

Few places have as many as eight UNESCO World Heritage Sites packed into such a small area. Sri Lanka's 2000-plus years of culture can be discovered at these ancient sites where legendary temples boast beautiful details even as they shelter in caves or perch on prominent peaks.

Sri Lanka is a year-round destination with two monsoon seasons so there is a lot of confusion around when is the best time to visit. The weather doesn’t run like clockwork here, and you can always be surprised by the weather here. The south-western monsoon brings rain to the south-west of Sri Lanka between May and September, while the dry season in this region runs from December to March. In the north and eastern coastal regions of the country, the weather is influenced by the north-eastern monsoon, which brings wind and rain between October and January, and drier weather between May and September.

There is also an inter-monsoonal period during October and early November when rain and thunderstorms can occur across the island. This clears up as December nears. The period from December to mid-April is considered the best time to visit Sri Lanka as the weather is great during this period.
