Thailand is home to many different people from various cultures. Due to this, there are countless crazy festivals and exciting special events held in Thailand throughout the year. Some of these are celebrated nationwide, e.g. Songkran whilst other festivals are specific to particular cities or provinces. Here’s a list of some these amusing festivals celebrated in Thailand along with their craziness quotient.

Songkran - Water Festival

Songkran, a three-day water fight throughout the whole country is the biggest and most fun-filled festival in Thailand. One thing is certain – You will get wet!

Phi Ta Khon - Ghost Festival

Located in Dan Sai Town in Loei Province, the Ghost Festival is held on the weekend of the 6th full moon of the lunar calendar.

Boon Bang Fai – Rocket Festival

This festival is celebrated in the North-Eastern Thailand with live folk music, local rice wine drinking competition, beauty pageants, competitive firing of home-made rockets and a party atmosphere.

Yi Peng – Lantern Festival

Celebrated in the Chiang Mai province, during this festival, people release thousands of floating lanterns into the sky. They also decorate their homes with colourful hanging lanterns and flag decorations.

Chiang Mai Flower Festival

Wing Kwai – Buffalo Racing Festival

The annual Buffalo Races are being held here for over 140 years. The races take place on the Ceremony fields in front of the Chonburi City Municipality Office.

Phuket Vegetarian Festival

Lopburi Festival

This festival is held in the Old Town of Lopburi, which is also known as ‘the city of monkeys’. Each year over 4,000 kilos of food is provided as a feast for the long tailed macaques to eat which attracts more than 3,000 wild monkeys.
