Things to do in Shimla

Once known as the summer capital of British, Shimla still exudes the charm of India's Colonial era. Shimla has many beautiful points of interest which are unmissable. One of the best places to visit in Shimla at the centre of the town is The Shimla Ridge, which offers spectacular views of the mountain peaks of the land. The Ridge is a spacious open space that runs from east to west along the Mall. If you love the view of mountains, this is unmissable. Jakhoo Hill is the highest peak in the entire hill station offers a scenic view of the city and snow-capped Himalayan Mountains. It is home to the ancient Jakhoo Temple, which has sensors to drive away birds.

Located under The Ridge, Mall Road offers a glimpse of Shimla in a nutshell. It is filled with many shops, cafes, restaurants, book shops and stores. Take a stroll on Mall Road for an evening of fun, eating and shopping! Lakkar Bazaar on Mall Road offers local handicrafts, shawls, woollens, exquisite jewellery etc.  An exquisite example of neo-gothic architecture, Christ Church has been an irreplaceable part of Shimla's scenery. This architectural marvel is known for its beautiful stained glass windows, the clock tower and the delicate frescos. The Indian Institute of Advanced Studies located on the Observatory Hill is a majestic structure with Victorian-style architecture. It has now been converted into an educational institution, but is a must do on your Shimla holidays, for its beautiful architecture.

There are many things to do in Shimla for the adventure lovers as well. Kufri tends to be a hub of sporting activity in winters. Skiing is a popular sport here and the town also hosts a winter sports festival in February. Horse riding is a popular activity in both Shimla and Kufri. The ride is exciting and scenic as well. Chail is a small and relatively less explored town, at a distance of mere 10 km from main Shimla. Travellers come here to relax and unwind in the lap of nature where the richness in flora and fauna is in abundance. Chail is a regular feature in your Himachal tour package as it is also the home to the highest cricket ground in the world.
