Kerala connected India to the world as a hub of spices and it was at Calicut, Kerala that Vasco de Gama first landed in AD 1498 and opened the route for the colonial powers to come to India. In accordance with the availability of natural resources the type of food changes in various regions of Kerala. In the coastal areas seafood takes centre stage while in the plains cuisines are primarily based on vegetables. In northern part of Kerala it is meat that rules the roost. Nowadays you can get any food in any part of the state but eating the cuisine in its own habitat has its own joy. Go for fish curry in coastal towns other dishes in accordance with the place you are visiting. Theyyam is another art form of Kerala that breaks all the rigid cast divisions of India and people of all sections participate for the ceremony and bow to god.
