The Magic of Houseboats in Kashmir

A renowned Persian poet once quoted “If there’s heaven on earth, it is here in Kashmir”. Words fall short when it comes to describing the sheer beauty of the northernmost state of India. The Kashmiri landscape is adorned with snow-capped peaks, flowery meadows, lush pine forests, sparkling rivers and glassy lakes. It is nothing short of paradise. Kashmir tourism is renowned for offering exceptional travel experiences that will leave you craving for more.  The beautiful lakes of Kashmir are among of the most popular tourist spots in the city. These pristine lakes are lined with numerous houseboats which can be hired for stay. Houseboats are available for hire at three lakes of Kashmir i.e.  The Dal Lake, Nagin Lake and Jhelum Lake. A houseboat stay offers a unique opportunity to admire the mystifying beauty of Kashmir while floating on the lake. A trip to Kashmir is incomplete without staying at one of these wonderfully cozy houseboats.

Most of the houseboats are carved from wood and are replete with all modern amenities. The plush interiors of the houseboats are inspired by Victorian and Turkish styles of architecture. Most of the houseboats feature multiple cozy rooms adorned with intricate wood carvings which give it a luxurious look and feel. The Opulent décor, embroidered carpets and princely artefacts, is sure to make you feel like a royal. You might even be tempted to spend all day in the plush boat rooms and forget about the sightseeing bit!

Another unique factor which makes your boat stay magical is that you get to enjoy a firsthand experience of the Kashmiri hospitality. Unlike hotel stays, the houseboat allows you to experience authentic Kashmiri slice of life as most of houseboats are actual homes of the Kashmiris. Once in the boat, you won’t be treated as a guest, but as a family member. You can enjoy home cooked meals and savour authentic Kashmiri flavours with every meal. Apart from the main course meals, you can also enjoy tea break at the boat deck or balcony overlooking the pristine lake. Imagine soaking in the views of the majestic snowcapped peaks and the lake while sipping hot Kashmiri Kawa. Pure Bliss! And when the night falls, the beauty of the Lake alters to a surreal level. The sight of the moon reflected on the glassy lake, the cool breeze and the quiet gurgling sound of water will soothe your soul. The houseboats of Kashmir, are a magical place where you can disconnect from the world and create some unforgettable memories with your loved ones. If you are planning a holiday in Kashmir, ensure that your Kashmir tour package includes a houseboat stay.
